Spent Friday morning on Coney Island in Brooklyn, NY shooting drone aerials of the amusement park features. This is the Parachute Jump, a Coney Island landmark that ceased operation in 1968. The drone altimeter read 299' AGL at the top of the yellow spire. Topped it all off with a Cheese/Chili Dog at the original 100 year-old Nathans Hot Dog Shop. Great weather. No wind. Super day to fly.
Just returned from PhotoPlus Expo in New York. Had some excellent discussions with people there about drones and very high end camera systems, art papers and other things that looked interesting. Some of the booths are set up with sets and models for presentations of their products like this one for Olympus.
Crystal Lake aerial near dusk, Virginia Beach, VA at about 150' AGL This is a bit of a generic image but I'm pleased with the detail produced by the DJI X5S camera with an Olympus 12mm f2.0 optic. As nice as this one is, it's about to be replaced by a DJI X7 camera with a Super 35mm sensor and carbon fiber 16 and 50mm optics. The Super 35 sensor is used in many motion picture level cameras.
Some of my dance images are on their way to large platinum palladium prints by Chuck Jones, a talented fine art printer in Santa Fe, NM. They're at the negative stage now and I'm psyched to see them progressing. This one from a Bodyart session in a historic mansion outside NYC. Next, perhaps, some from the Morgue Art series. -- with Leslie Scott and Chuck Jones.
Yesterday was a pretty good day for flying so I went from the edge of Crystal Lake up to 200' AGL (above ground level) looking east. The one-block-long section of 54th St is near the center of the picture; Lakeside Avenue runs along the bottom of the picture just out of frame. Tomorrow Cape Charles scouting/testing for a shoot next week.
Tech: DJI Inspire 2 X5S Olympus 12mm f2.0 with a wonky radio controller. Not looking forward to three weeks in DJI repair on the West Coast. Thank Goodness Canon and Nikon have their pro support up-to-snuff.
