April 7, 2006Sandbar - Grand CaymanNorth Sound, Grand Cayman, a place called "Sandbar." I've been going there for years and it's been one of my favorite places on earth. It's a sandbar of usually pristine sand under 3-4 feet of water. You enjoy the place standing up and walking around. On a sunny day, dip your head under the surface and see water colors graduating from a medium blue near the bottom to a light emerald green near the surface. The colors go to infinity. It's stunning. The ambient visual is enough, but stingrays will come for a snack of squid parts you bring from the grocery store. A few years ago, there would be a few other people, but you could enjoy the place in a quiet solitude. Now, Sandbar is no secret and boats make big business ferrying cruise ship passengers there.
